Goodbye Hawaii, Hello Sydney!
If there is anything that really gets me up and about, it’s an awesome sunset. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I get a real buzz when mother nature decides to put on a show and light up the sky. My favourite sunsets are the ones where there is a bit of cloud cover, some pastels painting the horizon and then light up late. Quite often, I find the best ones light up even after the sun has disappeared (never leave a sunset early) and for a minute or two, all the features of the clouds glow just for a moment.
On my last night in Hawaii, we went down to China walls, a sunset destination which we frequented over and over during my time on Oahu. More often than not, you’ll be able to watch the local surfers do their thing on the zippy wave that rolls up against the rocks and chill out with your buddies whilst waiting to spectate what prevails. This night we hit the jackpot; we setup our towels and tunes, talked story when all of a sudden, boom! The sky turned, the pinks showed up, the clouds popped and we celebrated in the glow. And whilst you’re there, why don’t you say hello to around you?

Bronte pool raindrops. This is inspired by one of my favourite photographers Woody Gooch (@woodygphoto).
Home is funny word for me. The more I travel, the more diluted the word becomes. Home for me takes on many different factors; where my family/friends are and where I feel most happy. Although from Adelaide, South Australia originally, both Sydney and Hawaii feel like home to come back to. I think it’s a beautiful thing to move somewhere else, become so immersed in the environment to the point you feel like a local or you have a home base away from your ‘original home’. I am so fortunate to have amazing people around me in many corners of the globe.
This week was very relaxed, the weather in Sydney was very average but I think it must be a March thing. I remember March last year, it rained 27 days of March and I would get drenched riding home from work every day. Arriving back into Sydney with storm clouds and grey clouds everywhere reminded me a lot of last year, this time, instead of just leaving the camera in my back pack I tried my hand at shooting the grey and moody conditions.

Crumbly Bronte swell.

Go get em’.

See what I mean, real grey and moody.
Other than drink plenty of tea and catching up with mates, this week also consisted of a lot running. Now two weeks into my training schedule for the Bali Hope Ultra Marathon, I hit my weekly target of 72km, running 75km. I am building up 10% mileage a week, and hopefully my little legs hold together for the big dance on May 26th. My schedule for the next 2 months is going to consist of more and more running, so there will be a little segment each week on my progress leading up to the event.
Here’s a cutla other photos for you and my favourite piece of writing from the week.
Catch you soon, JL.
