“Say YES and work the rest out later.”
My Mum would always say this to me and it has long been an attitude that I have adopted. As a result, this week I said ‘YES’ to running an 84km Ultra Marathon in Bali on May 26th, and going camping last minute.

Track running.
I like to run. I will run 5-6 times a week, no matter where I am in the world. I am by no means elite, but it is a sport I have definitely fallen in love with.
I first started to run because I had a lot of mates in the sport, the community was so welcoming and made me want to improve. In my first week of training, I was warming up with Olympians and athletes that had achieved so much in the sport; this is something you would rarely find in other sports. However, the travel bug inside me wanted to see the world. As much as much as I loved the team I was apart of and the regimented training routine, a cheap ticket to the other side of the world appealed to me a lot more. A lot of my favourite memories from travelling have come from some of my runs. Alas, that’s a story for another day – this is about the 7 days now before me. I will have a post about the Bali Hope Ultra Marathon up this week.
Here’s my favourite moments in between runs.
China Walls
A place renowned for big swell, sunsets and cliff jumping. On Monday night there wasn’t any of this going on.

A tranquil moment.

Making our own entertainment.
Westside Pill Box
One of the shortest and easiest hikes on Oahu, decent views.

Into the horizon.

We make the most of the grey sunsets.
Cloudy sunsets have definitely outnumbered the bangers whilst I’ve been on Oahu this month, yet that’s exactly what makes the vibrant ones magnificent. Regardless, the adventure with friends is always the best part. Talking story and getting the blood pumping is so good for well being.
Camping!
At 10pm, my mates gave me a call. “Come camping with us Josh!” I was out for dinner at the time,I told them I wouldn’t be in home in time and to go without me. After I returned home, they called me again. “Josh you gotta come with!” How could I say no this time? I grabbed my quilt, a pillow and some track pants and I am very glad I went. We slept out on the beach, who knows what beach it was! We drove all the way out in the dark, more and more stars appearing the further we went. The blanket of stars across this sky kept me up for hours, I counted 5 shooting stars before I decided to make my wishes and call it a day. This was my second ‘Yes’ moment of the week, and what a good one it was.

Used the car as a tripod.

Talking story.

Sky full of stars.

Morning light.
Electric beach!
This beach is always a guaranteed for turtles and lots of sealife. The sun was beaming and the water vis was unreal. My friend Chau snapped these of me. You can find him on instagram @chau1988.

Big grin.

How you doing?
Looking back on the last 7 days, it was another eventful and great week in Oahu. Overall, it’s been a fantastic 6 weeks in Hawaii. It was good to have a solid base for a while as over the last 6 months I haven’t been anywhere much longer than three weeks. I took a different approach to this trip, spending a lot more time by myself to work on my individuals goals I had set on the flight over. I’m definitely happy with how I’ve progressed and looking forward to the next chapter of 2018. I’ll be landing back in Australia on Wednesday and going straight into a road trip up the East Coast.
Here’s my final favourite photos and piece of writing from the week.
Stay groovy.

Final glow.
Don’t deny yourself opportunities because you’re tired, because you’re in a good spot or you might fail and it’ll all fall to pieces. There’s a spell you’ll fall under in pursuing something that may seem unattainable. So if you’re confronted with opportunity, grasp it. You get more than three strikes, it’s worth a shot.
