CO-WORKING AND CO-LIVING

The last day of my running program for the ultra was scheduled as ‘Rest & Smoothies ALL day’. I certainly was not going to argue with that kind of training schedule. After completing an activity that delved so far into the unknown – I had no idea where that would leave me both physically and mentally. As a result, I left this whole week free in the calendar to soak up all the wonderful experiences and let my body recover.

Pretty good setup right? Need a work break, just slide into the pool.

I setup base at a super cozy, co-working and co-living space called Outsite. After race week came to a close, Outsite was the perfect place for me to chill my beans, catch up on sleep, recover my battered legs and enjoy a magnificent smoothie bowl from the team in the kitchen. This was my first time experiencing a co-working/co-living space and it was very well suited to my needs. What’s even cooler, these guys are setup in brilliant locations all around the world.

This is what I enjoyed about being apart of this unique environment:

  • From 10pm, there is a quiet time policy. As someone who loves to get up early and as an athlete who was in serious sleep deficit post ultra, I really appreciated this culture.
  • Super-fast wifi. I know it’s a necessity, but it’s not always a given.
  • Breakfast, I can’t get over this one. Waking up with super sore legs, there was nothing better than having a dragonfruit smoothie bowl + coffee delivered to my door. Set’s your day up for success if you ask me!
  • Awesome people. Rob, the Bali Outsite manager is fantastic at organising. Whatever you need, he seriously is the man. Rob organises for all guests at Outsite to have a ‘Family Breakfast’ once a week, as a result it kicks off very engaging chat with like-minded people from all over the globe early in the day.
  • The room/living space is super chilled out, Balinese style accomodation and very comfortable. This week wasn’t so much about adventures for me (I still couldn’t walk properly through till Wednesday anyway) but instead it was about learning, recovering and working. I wanted to learn and absorb as much from the magnificent people around me as possible.Founders of the Classroom of Hope. Very big sources of inspiration and legends wanting to impact.

LEARN FROM THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU.

After being surrounded by so many incredible people from all over the globe, I wanted to learn know what made them tick.

Here’s a few things I took away from the week, both new idea and refreshers. I think it’s important to check up on yourself to make sure these habits and ideas are present –

Manifesting greatness: You need to put out into the world what you want back from it. If you want to be surrounded by incredible people, do everything you can to to be that person to others. Same goes for your adventures, your job and relationships – be proactive in a way that puts you in the best place possible for wonderful things to happen to you. They will happen – be patient, persistent and consistent.

Move on from mediocrity: None of these people sit still. Firstly, they are always conscious that they love what they do. There is no doubt that when this is the case, you do your best work. From here, they take things one step one further. They strive to make sure that the work they love doing, is leaving a positive impact on as many people as possible. They believe in exploring the boundless potential within them, and rightly so. Why would you want to be mediocre when the world provides you every reason not to be?

One thought: Everything starts from a thought. One singular idea. When you believe in yourself and the idea you have, you can take it places you never thought possible. This links back strongly to manifesting greatness. A great example of this is the Bali Hope Ultra. Tom Hickman, the founder last year decided that he could raise money to educate Balinese children by running across Bali. He set out alone, with some local kids in a support car to aid him as he ventured across the island. To put things simply, things didn’t go to plan. He took his shoes off to mend some injuries, and in the process, dogs stole and ran off with his shoes. This didn’t deter him, he ended up running across most of Bali that night and his fundraising was a success. This was only the beginning, from here he wanted to run a complete and polished event. He envisioned it all, and slowly but surely things started to come together. And by May 22nd 2018, he had a team of 13 runners and a fully-fledged support crew from around the world join him for a second attempt. Every one of them completing the ultra and the race being a huge success.

Surround yourself with the right people: If you surround yourself with the right people, you can do anything. Choose these people carefully, and if they’re not around you, find them. Find the people that are where you want to be, than work out how to have them around you. If they’re wildly ambitious, driven and consistently proactive – you will be too.

The way they speak: These people don’t put others down and they certainly don’t speak with any negativity. They discuss ideas and always carry a positivity with what they project to the world. Do this day in, day out and it’s incredible how powerful your mind/ actions become.

My favourite frame of the week. Dreeeaaammyyy.

Hope you’re day is going great!

Feel free to leave a comment of one of your positive daily routines/habits, I’d be interested to hear about it.
